A truly special afternoon spent commemorating the club’s foundation and longevity – which was recognised particularly through the installation and unveiling* of the plaque shown below; the event was attended by 100+ members and friends of the club so there was plenty of opportunity for meeting up while watching or taking part in the high standard tennis being played in the tournament and exhibition matches during the afternoon.
Many thanks to Christine, Ros and all involved in making this landmark event possible and into a really memorable and enjoyable occasion.

*The plaque was unveiled by the Worshipful Mayor of Wigan (Councillor Yvonne Klieve) accompanied by the other members of the Presentation party – Lisa Cartwright, President of Tennis Lancashire; Roger Draper, former junior member of the club and ex-CEO of LTA; Ros Smith, Club Chairman; Tom Walsh, local historian; Michael Winstanley, Ward Councillor and WTC Trustee.

This will be a social event for Club Members and their families and close friends.
The Mayor of Wigan (Councillor Yvonne Klieve) will be unveiling a blue plaque to commemorate our 100 year anniversary during the afternoon and we also have Roger Draper (father of Jack Draper ) who will be playing a match with our very own Jack Parker. Roger used to be a junior member of the Club some time ago. He is the former Chief Executive of Sport England (2003 to 2006) and of the Lawn Tennis Association (2006 to 2013) and he is now busy supporting his two sons Jack and Ben who are on the professional tennis circuit.
We are also running an American Doubles Tournament which is open to all members (including U3A) starting at 1.30 pm
We will have refreshments (including bar) and a raffle so let’s hope that we have some sunshine.
