Club Centenary Celebration Afternoon – Monday 30th August 2021
A truly special afternoon spent commemorating the club’s foundation and longevity – which was recognised particularly through the installation and unveiling* of the plaque shown below; the event was attended by 100+ members and friends of the club so there was plenty of opportunity for meeting up while watching or taking part in the high standard tennis being played in the American tournament and exhibition (Roger Draper v Jack Parker) matches during the afternoon.
*The plaque was unveiled by the Worshipful Mayor of Wigan (Councillor Yvonne Klieve) accompanied by the other members of the Presentation party – Lisa Cartwright, President of Tennis Lancashire; Roger Draper, former junior member of the club and ex-CEO of LTA; Ros Smith, Club Chairman; Tom Walsh, local historian; Michael Winstanley, Ward Councillor and WTC Trustee.
County and District Championships 2021
Club members have enjoyed notable success in recent Championships – with Winstanley Ladies teams winning Divisions 3&5 in the Warrington and District LTA leagues and our 1st Mixed team victorious in its 2nd Division.
Meanwhile at the Lancashire County Championships Ben won the 10u Doubles event (with partner Edward) while Ollie and Robin won the Men’s 45+ Doubles; Tom was victorious in Mixed Doubles (along with partner Hannah) while Patrick was Runner-Up in the 18u Boys’ Doubles competition. Well-done all!
